Beginning Spinning: Learn How to Spin Your Own Yarn! (3 session series)
A collaboration between the Folk School and Calypso Farm and Ecology Center

Learn how to create your own yarn! No previous experience is necessary! This series of classes will introduce students to spinning yarn on a spinning wheel. The classes will cover an overview of how the spinning wheel works, preparing fiber for spinning, how to spin a continuous yarn and how to create a balanced 2-ply yarn. Students will be encouraged to practice between classes and will gain the foundation of experience needed to go on to become a versatile spinner.
Dates of the Class: Three Thursdays – April 6, 13, & 20, 2017
Times of the class: 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm each session
No experience necessary! Adults and kids 10 years of age or older. (If younger, must have permission of the instructor.)
Class Cost: $90 (Calypso member), $110 (non-member). You can become a Calypso member by making a donation of any amount for the year – to support Calypso’s educational programs. As a member, you’ll receive a discount on all of Calypso’s workshops, including blacksmithing, gardening, etc.
Materials Cost: $40 (this will cover the cost of a selection of wool for spinning – students who have their own wool to spin can skip the materials fee)
Students Should Bring: A functional spinning wheel, 3 bobbins (minimum)
Wheel Rental Option: Calypso has spinning wheels (with bobbins) available for rental during the class – you can take the wheels and bobbins home with you during those weeks. Rental cost is $60. Please reserve your wheel early to insure availability.
