Welcome to The Folk School of Fairbanks

ALL THINGS BOATS

…there is nothing—absolutely nothing—half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.” – Kenneth Grahame, The Wind in the Willows

Alaskans are blessed with an abundance of water—ponds, lakes, creeks, sloughs, rivers, estuaries, bays, fjords, sounds, seas, and oceans—with many opportunities to use boats of all sorts. The Folk School of Fairbanks is planning to take advantage of this natural bounty, teaching participants to build boats that will provide a lifetime of recreation, transportation, inspiration, and education. We anticipate that All Things Boats will eventually include classes on building, repairing, restoring, and using a variety of types of boats.

To further this goal, we have prepared a short survey to guide the development of the boatbuilding program at The Folk School. We want to know what kinds of boats you are interested in, what kind of classes will fit into your lifestyle, and how you might like to be involved in the program.

Please take a few minutes to respond to the survey, to help us create a program that meets your needs and that will become an ongoing resource for the community. We look forward to hearing from you and welcome your suggestions and participation. Click here for the survey.
