Halloween Masks! (2 session class)
Instructor: Marianne Stolz
In this class we will be using plaster cloth to make half or full face masks for Halloween.
Plaster masks are very versatile and fun to make. However, you will need to be comfortable not only handling wet, squishy cloth but also having it hug your face (sounds weirder than it actually is!). The plaster gauze is layered straight onto your skin (your skin will be protected with Vaseline). This creates a very smooth fitting, comfortable mask. You will also need to be patient enough to lie sort of still for about half an hour (15 min. to make the mask, 15 min. for it to set).
On the first day we will be working in teams to make the mask base. Then we can add warts or horns or whatever you dream up. On the second day we will paint the masks and work on some fitting accessories to create your best Halloween outfit ever!
You can bring “found objects” to incorporate into the mask, like a broken car antenna for an alien look, thick fishing line for whiskers, or a plastic fork to stick into your (mask’s) forehead…
If you want to wear a wig with your mask bring it so we can make it work together.
Note: please wear clothes that can get splattered with plaster and paint.
Also, the instructor will aim for the class to be done at 7pm, but maybe have an extra half hour available in case the plaster is not dry yet.
